How to skip a rope
1. Hold the rope at each end using each hand behind your body.
2. Swing the rope upwards over the head bringing it forwards and
downwards then jump over it as you swing the rope backwards.
3. Continue doing the same several times.

Read this story.
Nasumbu felt sad because she had lost her skipping rope. She did
not know what to do. All her friends had ropes ready to play rope
skipping games.
“What will I do?” Nasumbu wondered.
Chela, one of her friends came up with an idea. They can make a
skipping rope using banana tree barks.
“What a wonderful idea!” Nasumbu shouted in excitement.“But I do
not know how to make it, she said, frowning.
“I will show you, Chela said.
Chela and Nasumbu ran to the garden and picked dry banana tree
barks.They made strips out of the barks and soaked them.They then
weaved and twisted the strips to form a nice skipping rope.
Nasumbu was happy to get a rope. She joined her friends and played
the rope skipping games until they got tired.

1. Form teams of six people. Pair up.
2. One person from each pair skips first.
3. Skip the rope covering ten steps forward and then backwards to
the starting point. Pass the rope to your partner when you reach
the starting point. Cheer the pair that finishes first.
4. Form a group of three and skip ropes. Each person should skip the
rope up to the count of 50 without stopping.

forward direction.
Tempo means speed.
Mirroring imitating or doing an action like someone.

In galloping, the stepping foot is always in front.
How to gallop
1. Stand with one foot in front of the other.
2. Focus your eyes on the ground a few steps ahead.
3. Bend your body including your elbows slightly.
4. When starting, the front foot goes up first, then the back foot
follows. Land with the front foot first then the back foot. The
back foot should land behind the front foot.
5. When landing, the ball of the foot comes into contact with the
ground first.
How to gallop
Galloping reduces the risk of getting injuries.
Galloping helps us to be strong and healthy.
Animals that gallop are horses, dogs, tigers, deer and giraffes.

body. After playing, Biko always keeps the ball in the store. Biko wants
to be a footballer when he grows up.

Gallop, sing and make letters
Gallop as you sing the In and out the bamboo forest song and form
these letters and numbers: C, I, L and 5, 6, 7.
Mark and make noise
1. Collect small markers such as stones or pieces of timber.
2. Form three teams of four players each. Choose a leader of your
team. Give your team an animal name such as horse, tiger or giraffe.
3. Throw the markers in different places in the play area.
4. Start at the same time. Gallop around trying to find a marker.
5. When you find a marker, make the sound of the team’s animal.
Your leader will come and collect the marker and put it in a basket.
6. After the leader collects, gallop to the next marker and make the
noise.
Clap for the team that collects most markers.
Remember to follow the rules of the game.

1. Always look around before moving or changing direction.
2. Do not turn beyond your ability.
3. Run in a slow controlled speed before dodging.

1. Dodging in different directions
Pair up.Take turns to aim a ball at each other. Dodge to prevent
the ball from hitting you.You can dodge by moving to the left,
to the right, backward or forward.
2. Dodging in different pathways and shapes
Arrange cones or other objects to form a circle. Kick the ball
in and out along the circle but avoid the ball from touching the
cones. First, do it slowly, then as you repeat increase the speed
in each round.
Arrange the cones to form other shapes such as a triangle and
rectangle. Dodge the cones as you kick the ball while moving
from one cone to the next.
Arrange the cones in other patterns such as straight, curved
and zigzag. Dodge as you kick the ball while going from one
cone to the next.

Arresting and freeing game
1. Form two teams of three players each or more. Play arresting and
freeing game. One team is the arresting team and the other is the
dodging team.
2. The arresting team chases the dodging team and tries to catch
them.The dodging team members avoid being caught by running
and dodging. The dodging team members also try to free their
members who have been caught.
3. When all members of the dodging team have been arrested, the
teams change roles so that the dodging team becomes the arresting
team. Continue playing the arresting and freeing game.

1. In groups of three, play a throwing and dodging game.
2. Two players stand on the sides facing each other while throwing
the ball to hit the third player who gets is between them.The third
player dodges from being hit by the ball.
3. If the ball hits the player, he or she takes the throwing role while

b) Let us play
1. Get a soccer ball and form two teams of equal number of players.
2. Play a soccer game. Divide the field into two sides.
3. Each team stands on one side of the field.
4. Punt the ball to the other side of the field. The other team will
receive the ball then punt it back.
5. Repeat the game until everyone has had a chance to punt.
